Brian | Re: Can't escape crap distortion Its the vox AC4 1 SE el84 B+ ~ 270V being driven by an EF86. I have already upped the filter caps to 32uF, and biased the el84 a little hotter than stock -- If I remember correctly I am using a 120 ohm cathode resistor paralleled with a 25uF cap. The 125E is currently set to 4200 ohms on the primary. I have tried a host of stuff with this transformer -- up to 6K down to 3K, up to 8.2K using only half of he primary etc. I have been tweeking the preamp values around like crazy, but there is no happy medium between no bass, and farty bass. any suggestions? as I am pretty much out of ideas to try -- other than ditching the tube recto for a bit more voltage.
