Re: Big Muff Pi
Try 10uF coupling caps. A very "metal" sustainy sound. My old gray colored sovtek has big orange cube ceramics that are unmarked but Pauley claims they are 10uF and the one I perf boarded with them comes close. The big muff is my favorite pedal. I own several and have built quite a few, and I don't care what anyone says, there is no formula. I have messed with caps, diodes, transistors, and have not been able to come up with a repeatable "magic" combo.(I am beginning to think its more like a magical mistake.) I think it must be something to do with the design(so many gain stages)that makes so many variables. I think from now on I'm gonna build em with everything but the resistors socketed, drink a lot of Moutain Dew, and plug and play till it gets right. Sadly, none of the ones I have built, (socketed caps) have come close to my version two, Old Grey Sovtek, or Hohner Tri-Dirty Booster, even when I copied them exactly. Too many variables!
Like J Mascis said, if everything is possible, why do anything?
