| Jake | Re: What are the best types of capacitors to use for the Kay Tremolo. There are several classes of capacitors: ceramic, mica, polyester, polypropaline (sp?), electrolytic.... Ceramics (and Mica, I think) are typically used for really low values, say 1000pf and below. The polyesters typically range between .001uF and one or two uF, but they get larger with capacitance, so .47 or so is the largest practical value for effect PCBs. Electros are typically used for values of 1 uF and higher, partially because they offer high capacitance in relatively small packages. Different types sound different. Ceramics are said to sound harsher than mica, for instance. For all my effects, and tremelos are no different, I use ceramics or mica for values below 1000pf, polyseter (also known as mylar) for the .001 to .47 range, and aluminum electors for 1uf and above.
