I built it using the 8.2k resistor and have the following voltages.  
 
Q1 gain=90  
B=7.89  
C=7.60  
E=7.96  
 
Q2 gain=175  
B=7.57  
C=2.18  
E=7.68  
 
Do these look normal? It's not sounding quite like Hendrix.
