I wholeheartedly concur with Ed. (My parts for the original are already in the mail, or I would have built it already! Those samples are sweet!)  
 
In science I think this would qualify as serendipity-luck meeting effort equals inspiration.  
 
Definitely worth keeping the original, Joe.
