Jeff Beck used a RM sort of sound to produce some very tasty non-metal stuff..."Goodbye Pork Pie Hat"...now that's some JAZZ...great chord changes...extremely challenging to improvise a good sounding solo over those changes! It is an effect that you have to work with quite a bit to squeeze the good stuff out of it. I've found that right hand position and picking technique make a huge impact on this thing. IMHO, a lot of people who say it's junk, never really gave it a good chance. JD
