Before I get lynched, I'd like to say that I certainly wouldn't encourage a complete novice to get involved in a tube project.  
 
I wouldn't have chosen to say it on a public bbs, but I think what I was getting at was that I've been frustrated in the past by certain transistor circuits whereas I find tube gear much easier to troubleshoot. YMMV.
