| Martin | Re: Zakk Wyldes pedal board. Ummm.. I think the drummer was Rod Morgenstein, I know he played with Marty Friedman (oh yeah, he was there too), and I'm sure he played with a couple of other bands. Marty Friedman's band was pretty interesting, it was him, Rod Morgenstein, Dave LaRue, and a girl (I can't remember her name) who sang and played rythmn guitar. They played mostly covers and a couple originals.. anyway it sounded nothing like Megadeth or Cacaphony, it was cool to see Marty playing stuff totally different from what people expect from him.. no shredding, just playing. Okay, here's what really impressed me about Marty Friedman was how non-anal he was about his gear. The only thing he brought with him was his guitar. His amp (a Crate Blue Voodoo) was supposed to be provided for him to use... he endorses them, but for some reason it didn't show up, so he had to use a Peavey 5150 that was laying around. When I asked him how he wanted it set, he just said, "Just give me a Rock sound." Totally cool. No freakin' out that his normal amp wasn't there, no fooling around with different batteries, no getting whine-y about what kind of cables he was using... just rock. A class act all the way. Here's a fun tidbit about 5150 amps: They make great bass amps. In fact I think they sound better with bass than guitar. While Marty Friedman's band was rehearsing Dave LaRue's amp blew up. We replaced it with a 5150 (there were piles of the damn things lying around, Peavey was a sponsor of the event). Anyway, the 5150 sounds really cool with bass. Very gnarly and organic sounding. It was a cool show. I wish I had gotten a chance to talk to Ed, but he had tons of people crowded around him all the time, and I didn't want to bother him. I also wish I had gotten some pictures, but I forgot to bring a camera. I think some pictures are posted on Toshi Iseda's website, though I don't recommend anyone go there. Jeesh, I haven't had my coffee yet today, how am I expected to remember these things. There were a bunch of other guitar players I met and hung out with, but I honestly can't remember who. I DO remember hanging out with Tony MacAlpine alot, because he stayed in town and played a few shows with Toshi, and I was Toshi's tech, so I got to hang out with him. Marty |
