If you eliminate the 100ohm resistors completely, you will eliminate the control -- the pot and resistor will simply go between +V and Ground. A different solution might be to AC bypass the 100ohmers with a large value capacitor (or BFC as RG likes to refer to them). I think an interesting experiment might be to get a couple of 100ohm trimpots. Hook one end to ground, the second to the diode, and the wiper to a grounded BFC. This would give you variable "softness" for each diode. -Jeff
