That's it, there's a couple of momentary switchs, either normally closed (i.e. the button hasn't been pressed and the switch contacts are close). When you press the button, the switch becomes open, and normally open (the opposite tot he above).  
 
For true bypass, you want a DTDP alternate action push button (i.e. push on/ push off).
