Weird. In addition to that clipping, do you hear "normal" overdrive as well?  
 
It should be an overdrive that does boosting and low levels of distortion well.  
 
I guess it could be the JFETs - I've never ruined one in all of my soldering.... but Hawaii is a humid place.
