| Rob | I'm wit ya, JD-- I completely agree with you about practicing your pedal. I'm still practicing my AC 30 tone skills, and it ain't all that easy. I've played out with it a couple of times, but I'm going to stop using it until I have mastered it. I think a lot of pedal freaks, like me, can't stop collecting or making effects, but the problem they run into is wanting to try them out on stage every time they get a new one. We only play once a month or so now, so I have one or two new pedals almost every time we play. And, almost inevitably, I realize later that it cut through too much or not enough or added too much noise, or whatever. As far as wahs, I have a Vox RI and with the crrrrappy pickups on my Epi Dot, I get the weakest wah sound you never heard through the AC 30. Like a mouse fart through a megaphone--I swear, it sounds bad. I'm ordering the Teese inductor and getting new pickups soon. As far as phat sound, back to what I was saying before, you may actually be able to attain that sound with what you have if you get creative. I've known about the "woman tone" thing for a long while, but never liked messing with my tone knob. I bought Live Cream a few weeks ago and can not believe EC's tone live--so I tried rolling back that tone knob and messing a lot with my pedals and amp tone and, what do you know, I can get near it with my Dot and Hiwatt and Rat pedal. Roll the tone knob back to 10 and I'm just slicing through. >whew< All done. |
