I think he might have used a Foxey Lady Fuzztone which was a pedal made for Guild by Mike Matthews. This pedal is similar to the Big Muff except with no tone knob. Just a guess because this pedal came out around 1968. According to the book "Stompbox", Jimi wanted Mike Matthews to form a band with him. Don't know if you would believe that!
