Wow Phil, you and I seem to have travelled down the same road.  
 
I generally agree, to some point. The TC is pristine. Like another response said, I also think the TC is absolutely great in stereo but thin in mono. A damn shame, too.  
I also think that the TC is a different sound than the Boss units. To me, the Boss choruses are more swirly, gurgly, warbly type of sounds. Yeah, the TC can get like that, but not quite the same.  
I guess it's like this,  
Boss: old school  
TC: new, kind of hi-fi stereo done right  
 
The EJ reference in an earlier post conjures up the sound of "Manhattan", which is incredible to me.
