The REAL triple bypass

The REAL triple bypass
My wife has graciously given me a small allotment of on-line time (wisely, so, I'm starting to get the shakes and sweats), some of which has already been spent on work-related e-mail, so I'll be brief.

I'm touched by the attention and heartfelt good wishes. Thanks, guys. A special thanks to Mike for being my bridge. This year has been a bit of a drag, but things are starting to pick up now that I got myself repaired. I am astounded by the resilience of the human body. I just wish to hell I could have gotten them to centre the indicator LED a bit better!

Never one to throw a useful bit of trivia, I will leave you for now with this one. Cardiac wards the world over seem to use telemeters for patients that use a 9v battery. The standard is a high quality industrial alkaline. To be certain that the quality of the ECG signal is NOT because of the battery, they seem to change batteries every couple of days. From the taste of it, once they hit about 7.8-8v, down from the fresh-state 9.6 or so. NO ONE, I repeat, NO ONE is going to attempt to recharge them, so they go in the discard pile. That's right, every day, every hospital in your region tosses about $400 worth of premium alkaline 9v's that can be brought back to a respectable 9.2 or so with a brief stint in a recharger.

A word of warning, though. DO NOT attempt to recharge non-rechargeable batteries unless you know what you are doing, and are in a position to guarantee they will not overheat and explode in your recharger.

That being said, get to know someone in a cardiac ward, and save hundreds of $$ a year!!

Great to be alive, and great to be back. I'm gonna go nap now. Thanks again.

Mark
