I used to try to keep a bunch of boxes plugged in at once. Then I realized that most of 'em were making noise when they were off (namely Fender Blender, Small Stone, big muff, Vox wah). I didn't have the money or the desire to mod vintage boxes to true bypass so I only use them when recording the effect while on. Perhaps you can determine which effects are sucking your tone then put them into a separate loop? nic
