| MKB | Re: I'm gonna remove the epoxy and return it! At work, we make a microcontroller sensor unit that is meant to be submerged in water or harsh conditions, it is potted in a cube of epoxy for these reasons. My job is to take apart defective ones and see why they stopped working. I use a heat gun on low setting and a 14" wood chisel and dental pics. Clamp the unit in a vise, heat the epoxy with the gun, and lightly chisel away. I haven't had a part fail yet from the heat; this gun doesn't heat enough to melt solder. It is the same one you can get at Home Depot or wherever. I don't know what effect the heat would have on germanium, however. Another thought on potting in effects, isn't this a great way to clone a pedal or steal a design so that no one knows about it? |
