this 'magic' was only referring to AC128 transistors for use in a FUZZ FACE clone.  
any pedal aficionado knows that , in a FF circuit transistors are for 90% of the sound, and that some AC128 were not powerful enough to fuel a face.  
But you are right for one thing: magic is not the correct word : I should have said 'with enough gain to allow smooth distortion'.  
We, creative people, need people like you to restrain our invading fantasy.Thanks.  
 
About my soldering, solder is plain but it is the way I solder point-to-point the components, and in what order, that gives me the feeling tone is improved.  
It may sound silly.  
But am I the only one to think point-to-point circuitry in the old fender amps make them superior to PCB newer amps?  
Look into a '65 deluxe reverb chassis and throw me the first stone.
