Re: justification
Dear Mr. Vex,
I came here by accident as somebody post a link to my website http://www.ts808.com . (aka stompbox2000)
And I bumped into that discussion which is of huge interest for me.
I am a tiny maker and inventor of a pedal which is named 'The FUSE BLOWER'. This pedal is just starting to be really apreciated in Europe as well as in the USA. I just sold a few but that is all I can make, as I manufacture them myself with love on sundays on my kitchen table.
And that is why I can only agree with you: copying a schematic of a fuzz face is OK, because there is nothing secret about it and you could learn a lot from this. BUT copying a pedal which contains your skill, invention, ideas and workmanship is not cool at all. You will not learn nothing if you knew the way I solder my wires while I am sure it gives my pedal its sound. You will not learn nothing either from the way I choose my transistors and caps.
Fuzz technology is simple and everybody can learn it but we all have our receipes we keep secret.
That is what I love in boutique distortion.
Having said that, may I take this opportunity to point out that you have been a constant inspiration for my work, while ZVex pedal are really hard to find in France.
I will really love to hear from you!
keep up the great work!
jacques
