| Doc | Re: effects on a trombone This little interjection doesn't help with amplifying the sound of an actual horn, but I thought you'd all get a kick from it: A friend of mine, a bass player who works in a music store, showed me how to emulate a tuba and trombone using a bass guitar and a Roland JC-120 amp. For some reason, those clean amps have an awful distortion control as an on-board effect. Plug in your bass guitar, turn the distortion knob up most of the way, treble down, bass moderately up, and play with the volume control in the lower range. With practice, you can emulate the sound of the lips rattling on the mouthpiece. By sliding from one fret to another, make the bass trombone come out. It's hilarious! One JC-120 with bad speakers sounded the best. I never expected to laugh so much in a music store. Doc |
