| DanF | Re: DeArmond Trem-trol tremolo pedals Hi RG Yeah, I’ve been really curious about the DeArmond tremolo effects for a long time. I currently have one that I am about to revive (finally getting to it). I was originally thinking of bypassing the liquid-filled cylinder with a new mercury switch. But asking about this several months ago, I received a good, detailed email message stating that the liquid inside the cylinder was Windex! (I’m not sure if this means DeArmond/Rowe actually used Windex, or a liquid that was virtually identical.) This was reported to be second- or third-hand information from a old DeArmond/Rowe employee. It also mentioned traces of blue crystals inside the dried-up cylinder – see any of that? Windex is definitely conductive and when I tested a small amount with a meter, it read approximately 200k ohms. I’m getting ready to try it but since this is such a mysterious little mechanism I’d be happy to investigate this further, get additional advice, find an ex-DeArmond employee, whatever. Meanwhile, I’ve never actually heard one. Dan |
