Re: expansion with tubes
Hi Zachary,
This octave divider's been thru a bunch of mutations this week....I've now got a reasonable balance between the signal voltage going thru the sawtooth/trigger stage, ( was driving it too hard previously that caused all the oscillation)
and a decay envelope that doesn't make the flip-flop generate all sorts of junk.

By "gating" it so that lower voltage signals are cut off, cleaned up some of the "growl" that was accompanying the decay. I've got the gating thing partially worked out by using a split rail triode stage just before the flip-flop; varying the anode/cathode outputs cleans it up. Still a little too touchy, though. I had hoped not to have to put in the -150V rail, as I want this to be a reasonable size stompbox.

I'm real interested in other possible options...do you have ready access to that adjustable expander schematic? I'm not familiar with the text you mentioned; do you know the full title/author? Looks like a trip to the library's coming up soon.....
see ya,
Jon
