Yep, 0.022uF worked best for me, but it's still not as "Hendrix" as I'd hoped. I think I'm going to have to find some more Ge transistors to try in it! I don't expect it to be sparkly, but it's really a bit short of top!  
 
Thanks a lot for the advice - I'm starting to get a bit of a feel for how these things operate now.
