I have never used 6sl7's before, but I'm dying to build somthing with them. I've heard them described as "fat" and "smooth" compared to 12ax7's witch are "buzzy" and thin IMO without power amp dist. That's one reason I thought the 6sl7 sounded like it would be a better choice. do you think the 6sl7 would work well in a high gain preamp? Ricky
