One thing I have learned over the years about musicians who have gained amazing chops by woodshedding is that they aren't always the most articulate people in the world. Doesn't mean they're dumb, just that time spent woodshedding is time spent in private, and time NOT devoted to the art of crisp discourse that drips with specificity. Having said that, EJ could be: a) nuts or excessively anal-retentive b) having fun with us c) REALLY alluding to a problem stemming from a long screw shorting something out internally, and the problem being solved expeditiously with an elastic. I've had plenty of stompboxes that sounded great, and when I screwed everything back together they didn't work, so I'm willing to put my money on option #3. My guess is that if this were the case, the interviewer probably wouldn't have phoned back to ask for clarification, Indeed, I doubt that ANYone who interviews someone they respect or idolize is going to go back over the transcribed interview and request clarifications of things that seem too preposterous to have been expressed accurately.
