I have a TS 808. I bought it new for $39. I never liked it much until I changed the chip. I used an LF353 bifet chip and it came to life. It would clean up when turning down the guitar, or picked softly (it didn't before) and it gained some sparkle, while retaining the smoothness. I was recently given a TS-5 and its almost indestinguishable. Honestly.
