Re: OVERDRIVE PEDALS
Hi David
You do realize that the search for a perfect Od/Dist is a never ending quest?
Seriously though, it depends a lot on what you are looking for, you can get some kind of good sound out of nearly every pedal ever made.
They range from a little more than boost,e.g. MXR Microamp,DOD mentioned below, to Tubescreamer which also can be used as boost to push a tube amp,to more distortion like a Boss DS1 ( a good pedal especially for the $$) to a RAT, Metalzone, Fuzz etc..
There are endless variations on the same theme, lots of TS clones, even some of the high $$ boutique pedals are TS circuits tweaked to the max.
I've had a LOT of OD/Dist pedals in search of... the "tone"
Some pedals only sound good with certain amp/guitar/pickup combinations too.
I just bought a Morley Diamond Distortion, haven't heard it, but it comes highly recommended, got it used on eBay for $35, supposed to sound good with any guitar amp etc.. and a lot of range.
I have had a few of the older EH Big Muff's , that I REALLY wish I'd kept at least one of, they sound good from OD to smooth fuzz, new ones ain't the same!
Try to buy used and at a price where you won't loose if you don't like the pedal.
Have fun!
Oh don't forget the pedals that have an actual tube, personally I don't like them much.
