It is different from most other clean boost pedals in that the input impedance is extremely high - 5 Meg ohms. The result is that there is less loading on your guitar's pickups, causing the tone to sound brighter, and more lively, even when the pedal is set only for unity gain. I have no experience with the Rangemaster, so I can't tell you how it compares with the SHO.
