In many instances, you can improve the noise specs of whatever you happen to purchase by replacing the op-amps with a lower-noise version (e.g., replacing 4558's 5532's, or TL062's with TL072's). If you don't have excessive high-frequency requirements from your EQ, you can always tack a capacitor on the output and trim back some of the hiss. IN general, though, whenever you have a stage that is supposed to run clean, it's good to feed it with the hottest signal that the device's headroom/design will permit, in order to get the best S/N ratio. |
