| Mark Hammer | Re: Roland/BOSS Chorus Virtually any chorus in a stompbox will differ from the JC amps in one very basic way: the JC amps used two power amps, one for each speaker and provided a stereo chorus effect. Although many chorus units can have a stereo output, folks rarely use them that way. The CE-1, from looking at the schematic, has a few electronic differences between itself and many other chorus units. It's probably the only commercial device I've seen that uses a Matsushita MN3002 bucket brigade chip. More common is the MN3007, MN3207, or Reticon SAD-1024. Since not all these chips have the same specs, perhaps that can make a difference in sound. It's also one of the few that uses discrete transistors in the mixer and output sections. It also has a back-to-back diode pair in the LFO circuitry for the vibrato setting, presumably for waveshaping. Since people are bound to ask, it uses a SPDT switch and FET-based electronic switching. As for the Dimension C, that box has always been a mystery to me. Never tried one, and the buttons never really gave a clue as to its design. |
