Paradiddle7 | Diodes! Hey there! I was just reading John Greens article on the Screamer + and have talked with him regarding diodes...I have a few things to bring up,... I have a shitload of diodes kicking around my basement. I use the IN4148's alot in pedals. These have a voltage drop of around .60v I found a pack of 500 1N569 germanium? diodes that have a voltage drop of .29. My question is what effect does the voltage drop have on the amount of clipping? Is this the only factor? I notice that the smaller the voltage drop the lower the clipping is. What types of diode might i try in my boxes? What effect does different types have on the sound? I read an article on R.G's page about assymetical clipping what is this and how is it different from symectrical clipping? Is it a more 2nd order harmnonic present? Can this be complished by using two diodes in series and one in parallel in a diode clipper configuration? Thanks,.. Jeff |
