Re: Gear and "tone"
I must admit that I suffer from GAS. In my case however it comes not so much from my guitar rig as it does from wanting a recording studio, PA System and then of course the guitar rig. I have gone the full gammit in my guitar rig, going from basic to some effects, to lots of effects (analog), to digital processors, and now back to basic with some pedals. I still accumulate a lot of amps, more as an investment than to play. My main rig is one of 3 amps. Super reverb, Deluxe reverb, and Ampeg Reverberocket. My pedal is the Ibanez tube king. My guitars are either a strat or Sheraton both equiped with the appropriate Lindy Fralins. I have come to agree that less is more, so I have come full circle. Now that sounds pretty basic right? Well here is where the real GAS starts. When I go into my studio I have every gadget known to man. Anyone that has ever recorded knows how you need these things to get different sounds or flavors on recordings. Each amp has its own tone right? Gotta have a bunch of amps to get those different tones. Let's not forget the tweaking and modifying on these amps and oh yes.....speakers....can you say anal? All I can say is thank God that I have a wife that is understanding and doesn't care what I buy as long as the family comes first. Anyway for all you GASSERS out there, there is one sure way to keep from buying that next gadget. The next time your buddy says "Lets go to the music store, guitar show, ect..." Don't take any money, checks or credit cards.
