Consult Ted's Opinion
Ted Weber is extremely knowledge and always seems to have a speaker to recommend to suit the amp and taste of the owner. Tell him what you like about the ceramic. Tell him what you think of the old Jensen, etc. He might suggest a great compromise. Don't just order the speaker that is most accurate to the amp.

I prefer alnico's over ceramic in many of my amps. I'm a Tweed buff and the alncio is very respopnsive at reproducing the "narly," dirty, odd-order harmonic break-up of a tweed (especially the 6V6 amps). To me ceramic speakers smooth out the distortion. This is great in hard rock when you are using a Marshalls and especially a Mesa, but it just can't get a good, dirty, lo-gain blues tone from them. They also don't seem to respond as resposive to my "touch" and finger playing.

Ted Weber has been my savior this past month. I bought a P8Q for a '68 Champ that has Gerald Weber's Tweedify mod done to it. The old speaker was shot and definetly couldn't handle the extra gain. I ended up puncturing the Weber right after installing it. Though it was purely my fault, Ted reconed it for free. I'm still flabber-gasted (sp??). Plus, he did it in time for a Halloween gig he knew I had.

As for the new speaker. Incredible. Very full, rich tone. Despite the midrange punch of the tweed tone circuit the speaker gives a full-range output. And when I use that extra gain and OD the 6V6 I can still hear every note through the Neil Young-esque saturate distortion.
