Re: Please stop using "JAP"...
Hey, as a Ford owner that remark about American vehicles ruffled my feathers. :)

Seriously, the rule I try to live by is to judge a persons statements on what their intent was. If a person says something that is intended to defame or hurt another, I think it is wrong. But if there was no intention, it isn't a problem. In today's politicaly correct world you can't do anything without offending someone. Call a person in a wheelchair handicapped and you may be corrected that they are physicaly challenged. If a person tells a joke that may offend someone (a don't know too many that don't), does the person intend to offend that group, or do they mean to make someone else laugh? Does it even matter?

Point is it's too hard to draw lines in the grey area of what's OK and what's not, so I go by intent. No joke, slur, or remark bothers me, as long as the person doesn't take it seriously. Being part, English, Dutch, French, Irish, and Italian - having a black aunt - and having lived in Pakistan for a few years, makes it quite hard for someone to say any joke around me that doesn't hit home!

IMO the problem is that too many people rant and rave over little things, because they drew their lines in different places, and won't say a word when a real bigot (possibly a friend), says something that should be corrected.

My system is simple, avoids the political correctness grey area, and leaves me with no doubts about when to speak up. I hope I didn't offend anyone with this. :)

Peace
