Re: Need info on Mullard and RCA Black Plates
I suspect that the labels "1022 218" and "1022
304" are military codes for the EL 34 made by
Mullard. Vacuum tubes from the USA and UK were
made in two versions: civilian and military.
The military nomenclature was different from
the street version. For example, in the USA
12AX7 was called 12AX7 JAN in the military. In
the UK, 12AX7/ECC83 was called CV 4004. Most
likely your EL34s are military versions made
by Mullard for the British forces. Check out
my new web site at
http://www.angelfire.com/on/vacuumtubes which
explains this very topic. Tube nomenclature is
a very unique field, and has a code all to its
own! The code on your tubes may refer to date
of manufacture.
