| Colin | dissapearing "swooshing" noise in 77 SF champ Benjamin: I couldn't find a multican around here (Halifax, Nova Scotia) so I wound up using 3 20uf sprague atoms. But after reading your reply I have been listening each time I power up and guess what.. the noise is gone. Is this due to not forming the caps? I read posts where it's adivsed to form them and then others say don't bother. All I know right now is the amp seems fine. I wonder what would have happened if the new caps had been brought up slowly on a variac? Have I shortened the life of these filter caps? btw I'm using a Sovtek 6v6 (Halifax NS again) so I changed the 470 ohm cathode res to a 510 ohm to keep the 6v6 a little cooler and i added a 1K 3watt screen resistor to the power tube. Sounds great now and the Sovtek seems alot happier. Thanks for the reply Colin |
