Steve Albini: with Big Black and Rapeman Sonic Youth: Dirty Marc Ribot: Raindogs (Tom Waits) The Beatles: Revolver Hubert Sumlin with Howling Wolf Eldon Shamblin and Junior Barnard (with Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys) PJ Harvey: Rid of Me, 4 Track Demos Karp: Self Titled LP Bill Kirchen (Commander Cody) David Lindly: El Rayo X Pete Townsend: Live at Leeds and of course, the master of them all: Link Wray. I've been curious about this subject for a while. Because what constitutes good tone is all opinion, it interesting to see what people's ideas of good tone are, and then see how that affects their ideas on circut design and tweaking. Also, I have a feeling I'm quite a bit younger than the average ampager so my selections may be unfamiliar to alot of you guys. Not that I dislike 'classic rock', it's just that I think you identify most with the music of your teens. (Not coincidently, thats the age when most of us started playing guitar). For me, that was about '90. This leads me to ask if there is any one out there who is trying to push the limits of amp technology to bring us totaly new sounds? Radical new ideas that aren't based on Fender or Marshall or Vox etc., but completely models. New ways of generating sounds, new ways of listening... I don't mean to rouse the ire of the purists, I'm just in search of the ultimate tone, and I'm willing to use any means necassary. If it means pluging into a computer, well so be it. That said, I wouldn't give up my old Super Reverb for the world. Besides, I think there's still some new sounds lurking in there. Just gotta keep looking...
