| Heath | Re: Overdrive Tone Forum I believe that the non-linearity that is being discussed is called the Fletcher-Munsen (sp?) curve or curves. The way I understand it these guys did all these measurements back in the 50's and 60's to determine the frequency response of human hearing at various SPL's. At any rate most recording engineers don't consider this a theory, but a fact so they compensate for many different types of playback devices at many different output levels to make a recording that sounds good. This "art" of mixing is what makes that SRV recording sound good at low levels. At any rate I'm just repeating what I read in the July or August issue of Recording in an article written by Dave Moulton. yaa. Heath |
