| tubegirl | 9 Pin Tube Sockets Excuse the amateurishness of this question, but I've often been intrigued as to what the central, often cylindrical tag on 9-pin tube sockets is for. I've never used it in the past for my 12AX7's and EL84's and things worked (though not always - but that's other issues). I've seen it used like a tagstrip for adding components directly to a socket in old amps - but I generally use PCB's (shock ! horror !) so I wouldn't know about that. Can it be used to reduce hum by connecting it to ground - (to collect stray electrons/emissions passing through envelope?? hogwash??). Only guessing. |
