| eth | Re: DIY Speaker Cabinets I have recently been inquiring about speaker cabinet design and recieved some good information from Peter Ambrose at Celestion. He listed four elements of design: "1. The size of the front baffle greatly affects the sound(bigger gives more low end presence). 2. Mounting the speaker on the front or the rear of the baffle greatly effects the sound. 3. The box material, construction, and finish greatly affects the sound, (i.e. different different cabinet panel size will produce different panel resonant frequencies, which in turn will produce different sound coloration). 4. The volume of air behind the driver (i.e. cabinet volume) affects the low end; big boxes give looser, deeper low end, small boxes give tighter and less full low end." (Peter Ambrose) I really appreciated the response,so I thaught I'd pass the info. on! later- Eth |
