Bruce;

I want to use the 3rd tube for the Phase Invertor, so I guess it would be long tail then.
I did mean coupling rather than decoupling...sorry about the confussion there.
You were talking about tying the plates together and using a SPDT switch to steer the input signal to either grid on the 12AX7 but having the cathodes use a different Rk and Ck...does Rk mean resistor and Ck mean Cap?
Now what do you mean by holding one of the RC groups above ground? Not ground one of the cathodes? What resistor should I use to aviod the thump? (tried it and it does thump..)
How would you suggest wiring the switch to kick in the extra parrallel stage Bruce?
About the pre-volume. I want a regular volume and then a Master Volume. I was going to use the Master volume from the Trainwreck design...the 100K dual ganged pot and place it after the PI and before the Powertubes.
I basically want a amp that will growl like a Marshall does.
Thanks so very much all you time and I hope this doesn't seem trival to you
