Benjamin is correct when he states that lots of tone options are needed on an acoustic guitar amp. Keep in mind that unlike electric guitar which utilizes the amp as part of the instrument, the acoustic amp should not add or detract from the sound; just make it louder. This becomes difficult when you consider the many different ways you get signal to the amp: humbucker, single coil, piezo, close mike, internal mike, contact mike and all/any combination.  
 
A good PA amp is a good start and lots of tone shaping tools are recommended to enable the player to nutralize what is added by the transducers.
