| Brendan | Re: question about plexi channels. Hi, Lately I'm coming around to the belief that most amps allow too much bass through the preamp and not enough in the power amp. The bass channel or "other" one you mentioned has so much bottom that even minor distortion will yield a muddy muffled or "farty" output on low notes. To what point do you reduce the cathode cap to eliminate this effect is a question I can't answer, yet. As to the bright channel, the farty bass problem is eliminated, but at the cost of scratching highs. I would start with the bass channel, since it is the more similar to a Fender input, and use the Tube Screamer and a Strat on neck pickup. Balance the distortion of the amp with that of the pedal, and you should get pretty close. Also, don't ignore high action, fairly heavy strings, and just plain beating the shit out of the guitar while you play to cop that tone. Good luck |
