| art | Re: What about Bass Guitar amps? The mystery cap is 47 pF... all it does is roll off the frequency response above 30kHz or so, probably to prevent oscillation. An amp like this one has a lot of gain, especially at high frequencies, and so considerable care is needed in the layout and in the grounding arrangments, to avoid oscillation. Do you have an oscilloscope? A problem I have met with several times in building high gain amps is that they don't oscillate without an input signal, but when you have a signal going in, the amp rings at some high frequency... without a scope this is hard to identify because it doesn't sound like an oscillation, it just sounds 'horrible'.
