Impedances and Transformers
I have a huge project I'm about to tackle, and I need to address some of that "gray area" in my knowledge of theory. I plan to build about 30 - 40 complete amps (just temporary proto stuff). I have to purchase output transformers for these designs, but I'm a little vague about matching impendences. I know how to calculate the plate to plate imp. for the tubes, and I know I'm supposed to match the transformers to this. The problem is, I want a few of the designs to have tube type switching installed. In other words, I want to be able to switch between 6L6's and EL-34's etc...

What I need to know, is what effect does a mismatch have on frequency response, and what will this do as far as reliability is concerned? I know that the power transfer will not be at maximum, but where is the extra power dissipated, The tubes and/or the tranny? And of course, if I've forgotten to ask anything else important, I guess I need to know that too!! :)

Anyway, any help would really be appreciated, and the more specific (technical) the better.

Thanks in advance.
