| jb | Re: Tolex question Greg, The way I do it here, is place my piece exactly where I want it, put a weight (in my case a large magnet from an old speaker) on half of the piece of tolex then pull the other half back and apply the glue ( in my case a product called Tear Mender, ammonia based stuff) lay it back down, press out the air, if any and remove the weight and finish the piece. Not really a big deal, the trick is have your piece in the right place from the get go. As far as wood prep goes, it needs to be free from dirt, dust, and anything else that will show through as bumps or dips. Wood filler and a light sanding go a long way If your interested in the glue let me know and I'll get you their address. It is much more friendly that the contact stuff, not near the mess and fuss, no mask, gloves, etc.. If you cut all your pieces first the job will go much smoother. Take your time and if you can inspect an older Fender box, the newer ones are not done nearly as nice, and check out how their pieces go together. Main thing is to have fun and you'll be really suprised as the box comes together. Good luck and let us know how you do. jb |
