| Chip | Bad tone/loss of volume... Help! I've got a Laney 50 watt head that one day suddenly lost volume/tone and I'll be damned if I can find anything wrong with it! New tubes...no change. Replaced all of the coupling caps...no change (I happened to have a boatload available, and it seemed easier to replace them than to tear the circuit apart testing for a "leaky" one.). Voltage reads okay everywhere. The amp does work, it just suddenly developed a really bad tone and lost lots of its volume. I don't have test equipment that will read the range required to test the filter caps, but wouldn't that show up as incorrect voltage somewhere anyway? Could it be the OT? This particular head has some solid-state add-ons that are beyond me, could it be there? It's an AOR Series Pro Tube Lead... I believe there's a schematic in Aspen P.'s book.... Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Obviously, my knowledge is limited..... Thanks in advance. |
