| Don | Filter cap before choke and standby switch? Hello all, I'm in the process of modifying an old Webster PA amp for use with guitar. As originally wired, the power supply has one 4 mfd./600 volt electrolytic before the choke and various other values after. I'd like to put in a standby switch--is one really needed for 5U4GB's? (it seems that as they are directly heated cathodes it would give the other tubes a chance to turn on before full power hits them, correct? Anyway, I've read that the caps should go after the standby switch to eliminate the possibility of a cap explosion due to overcharging. Is this true? If so, will the choke be less effective or damaged if I move all the caps after it? Thanks in advance. Cheers, don daput@pe.net Idyllwild Brewing Company |
